Sullivan Street Partners acquires leading residential behavioural and mental health specialist UK Addiction Treatment Group (UKAT)

London, 12 September 2024 – Sullivan Street Partners, a UK-based mid-market buy-out specialist, announces the acquisition of UKAT, the UK’s leading, residential addiction treatment group. UKAT operates over 200 beds across eight residential facilities in the UK. It specialises in comprehensive care and rehabilitation services for alcoholism, substance abuse, and wider behavioural health conditions. The business headquartered in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire was co-founded by Daniel Gerrard, the current CEO, in 2012. UKAT was acquired by Global Growth (then ELI Global), a North Carolina-based investment firm in 2018.

Sullivan Street navigated a complex ownership structure and challenging circumstances to acquire the business. Critical to the transaction was the development of a strong relationship with the management team and comprehensive knowledge of the sector.

Sullivan Street will resolve UKAT’s restrictive ownership challenges and support its mission to provide best-in-class treatment and outcomes to vulnerable patients in a chronically underserved market. The business and management team have an ambitious plan over the next five years to expand the number of facilities and service offerings. Sullivan Street will provide the capital and guidance to accomplish this strategy.

Layton Tamberlin, Managing Partner, commented: “We are pleased to have completed this acquisition. Over the course of our involvement, we developed a comprehensive understanding of the business, its aims, and built a strong relationship with the management team. We have deep respect for Daniel and his drive to provide the best possible outcomes for UKAT’s patients and stakeholders, and persevering through challenging periods of fraught ownership. We are confident in UKAT’s resilience and growth prospects. We look forward to bringing out the company’s full potential over the years to come.”

Daniel Gerrard, CEO and Founder of UKAT, commented: “We’re thrilled to welcome new ownership under Sullivan Street Partners. We have a positive history with the team and they know the industry, our business and most importantly, our desire and drive to help as many people suffering with addiction as possible, and they’ll undoubtedly be able to help us achieve our mission.”

Sullivan Street Partners was advised by Taylor Wessing, PwC and RSM with commercial due diligence provided by Connell Consulting.
